May is National Bike Month, and May 12 – 16 is National Bike to Work Week. So get out and ride! I can understand how biking to work is difficult to get started, but with a little additional planning, it’s easily attainable. Commuting by bike for a week can push a person’s comfort level, and that’s why May 16 is specifically Bike to Work Day.
I’m not trying to tell war stories, but I used to bike 18 miles to work once a week during the summer. It can be done. Having facilities like showers and lockers makes things easier, but there are workarounds for everything. One day people! You can do it for one day!
Sorry about that; I’ll climb down off of my soapbox now.
Most areas have special programs for Bike to Work Week. Google Bike to Work Week plus your city to see if there is anything planned in your area. It’s a great way to try something new and compare experiences.
Here are some links for Bike to Work Week activities in various areas:

Stay tuned for more on route planning and such.
Be safe, ride smart.
I’ll do it! Even if it means riding to work in pantyhose and high heels. Now that would be a sight!
