Morning Commute

I am not a morning person. I think that most everyone who knows me would agree. But somehow I manage to get my butt out of bed early enough to ride in to work every once in a while. Regardless of what I think when I go to bed, when I wake up I always think I need less time to get ready than I really do. I hit the snooze button. It’s a love-hate relationship.

I do really like riding in the morning though. There’s something more peaceful about that time of day. Everything just seems to be moving a bit slower. Maybe I’m just moving slower. This morning was a perfect 64 degrees when I left. I shed my jacket a couple of miles in. There are a few hills on this route. I don’t think there’s any way around it, heading into downtown from Prairie Village. Here’s the elevation profile from my route to work:

Getting past I-35My route keeps me off of the main thoroughfares, but there is a difference in the amount of traffic that I see in the morning vs the afternoon. I only have to cross one awkward, busy intersection but it took me a while to find this route. I’ll share with you my secret passage. If you are looking for a safe way to get under I-35 near Southwest Trafficway, this is it.

I cut behind the Fox-4 TV station and head up Summit Rd. This is actually going the wrong way up a one-way street, so don’t be stupid. Summit ends with a sidewalk that keeps going north. Follow this to where Summit Rd begins again. There you go, you are clear. Just watch out for the bums that sleep under the bridge.

10 miles, mostly cloudy, 64 degrees
